Mandolines

Many reactions about where to buy these instruments. Alas, I'm more a collector though sometimes I'm willing to sell one of my dear ones. Please, if you have any further information regarding luthiers etc. please contact me at acakoevoets@kpnmail.nl

G. Luciani / Luigi Marini

G. LUCIANI MANDOLIN

Regarding the way of inlay and other specific charactaristics
I would date this mandoline around 1900 - 1910.
Nice sounding mandoline with a somewhat bigger soundbox
that strengthens the bass response.

On this picture you can see the brandmarked name of this
Naples based builder. The decoration is not done with greatest
care but one must keep in mind that it was the golden era of
the mandoline back in those days and there were hundreds
of manufacturers trying to fullfill the demand for these
instruments which ment business!

A nice view on the back. These mandolines had veneered necks
and head and the way the head has been fitted onto the neck
dates this instrument a bit.

LUIGI MARINI MANDOLIN

This highly ornamented mandolin looks very good
but neck to body construction as well as the soundboard
fitting on the back had to be repaired.
As this is a job to be done by a professional
this instrument has been sold to an Italian.

The back of the Luigi Marini.
Indeed a lot of ribs.

Beautifully engraved machineheads.

Regarding the ornamention quite a plain label!

I really like this shot of this beautifully built mandolin.
